Nordic-Country_Log-Homes:
Log
homes with a protective shell

Our log homes are built with the outer and interior walls from
solid log, which also form the main load bearing structure for
the upper floor and roof producing a tight seal between the
logs.
This not only helps to produce a wind tight seal but adds
strength to the structure as the logs compress.
With a combination of log size, timber frame and glued beams
offers more flexibility with design and cost.
A timber frame is used around the outer side of the log
structure to add strength to the load bearing log walls and form
the cavity for the recycled paper insulation.
Soft board sheeting is then used to cover the timber frame
structure completely, which adds to the insulation value and
forms a perfect weather tight seal. This also creates a moisture
barrier which stops moisture in the outer cladding from
penetrating into the insulation, also stopping moisture from bridging
the wood structure that holds the cladding to the outer log
walls. |

The physics of exterior insulation

Because the protective moisture barrier covers the log structure
completly, this insures an even settlement of the log walls and
prevents the recycled insulation paper from compressing when
moist, avoiding the risk of air pockets within the cavity.
Vertical wooden strips are
then fixed over the soft board sheeting to the timber frame to
allow air to circulate behind the external cladding. This forms
a secondary barrier to stop moisture from penetrating through
the outer wall and allows the inner wall to breath, no damp
course is needed as a result of this.
With this system we are able to offer you a wider range of
external cladding, as well
as making it easy to change the cladding in the future.
